In this hands-on Summer Cooking Camp, students will explore Utah’s seasonal foods while learning how to cook real meals from scratch—no prior cooking experience needed.
Using fresh, locally sourced ingredients from Utah farmers markets, campers will chop, sauté, mix, and taste their way through vegetables, fruits, herbs, and simple doughs. Each day includes a balance of savory cooking and a homemade fruit sorbet, helping students build confidence while having fun in the kitchen.
This camp emphasizes cooking with whole foods, teamwork, and understanding where our food comes from.
What We’ll Explore
- Seasonal, whole-food cooking
- Kitchen safety and basic knife skills
- Teamwork and creativity in the kitchen
- Where food comes from and how it’s grown
What We’ll Make
- Fresh salads with herbs and vegetables
- Homemade flatbreads with summer toppings
- Vegetable stir-fries and quick pickles
- Zucchini fritters with yogurt sauce
- Daily homemade fruit sorbets using local berries and stone fruit
Skills Students Will Learn
- Safe knife and stovetop techniques
- How to balance flavors (sweet, salty, sour)
- Basic cooking methods like sautéing and pan-frying
- Confidence preparing food independently

Optional Friday Add-On
Students may extend their week by adding Friday’s Root Beer Brewing workshop with Stan Bailey. This one-day class pairs naturally with Cooking with Powers and allows students to enjoy a full week of food-focused learning.
(Friday workshop is registered separately and has its own supply fee.)
Pricing
- Supply Fee: $25
The supply fee includes ingredients and materials used throughout the week. Supply fees are listed separately and vary by camp.
Daily Camp Rhythm
Each day includes hands-on cooking, time to enjoy what we’ve made together, and an outdoor break.
