Junk Journaling Club is a place to gather with other journalers, spread out your materials, and enjoy a couple of unhurried hours of creative time.

Bring a journal you’re already working in or begin something new. There is no instructor, organized project, or planned lesson. Everyone will work independently while enjoying the company, ideas, and creative energy of others around the table.

Your registration also gives you access to Handcraft Revival’s collection of shared junk-journaling supplies during the club meeting.

What Is Junk Journaling?

A junk journal is a handmade or altered book filled with collected papers, photographs, notes, envelopes, fabric scraps, tickets, drawings, found materials, and anything else that holds visual or personal interest.

Your journal might become:

  • A creative record of everyday life
  • A travel or seasonal journal
  • A place to collect family photographs and memories
  • An art journal for experimenting with color and composition
  • A home for favorite papers, quotations, lists, and found objects
  • A completely unplanned collection that develops over time

There is no single correct way to make one.

Shared Supplies

Participants may use our rotating collection of shared junk-journaling materials during the club.  You are also welcome to bring supplies to add to our community collection. Available supplies may include:

  • Decorative and found papers
  • Book pages and sheet music
  • Fabric and ribbon scraps
  • Stamps and ink
  • Paper punches and cutting tools
  • Washi tape and adhesives
  • Envelopes, tags, labels, and pockets
  • Shared ephemera and collage materials

The supply collection will change over time as materials are contributed, collected, and used.

What to Bring

Please bring your own journal or book to work in. This might be a handmade journal, sketchbook, notebook, altered book, or another suitable surface.

You’re also encouraged to bring personal materials you would enjoy incorporating, such as:

  • Photographs or photocopies
  • Letters, recipes, or handwritten notes
  • Ticket stubs and travel papers
  • Magazine clippings
  • Fabric scraps
  • Old cards or envelopes
  • Small pieces of meaningful ephemera

Please make copies of anything irreplaceable before cutting or attaching it to your journal.
