Product Description

April at Handcraft Revival turns our attention to the quiet magic of plants—leaves, petals, roots, and bark that have colored cloth for centuries.

In this two-part natural dye class, fiber artist Jennifer Samuelson will guide students through the art and science of transforming botanicals into rich, lasting color. Working with natural fibers like cotton and wool, you’ll learn how everyday plants can become vibrant dyes through simple but fascinating processes.

Across two evenings, we’ll explore how color is released from plants, how fibers are prepared to receive dye, and how subtle variations in technique create different tones and results. Jennifer will demonstrate traditional methods while sharing the stories and traditions behind botanical dyeing.

This class moves at a thoughtful, hands-on pace—part science, part craft, and part quiet wonder as colors emerge from the dye pot.

Students will leave with naturally dyed samples and the confidence to continue experimenting with plants and fiber at home.
