Thursdays, January 28 & February 4, 2027 | 6:00–8:30 PM
Two-Part Class • Intermediate Level
Instructor: Jennifer Samuelson

Take your botanical dyeing practice a step further in this hands-on exploration of mordants, tannins, and the special considerations of dyeing cellulose fibers.

Building on the foundations of introductory botanical dyeing, we will investigate how different mordants prepare fibers to receive natural color and how tannins can help create richer, more reliable results on plant-based fibers such as cotton and linen.

Over the course of two sessions, students will explore the preparation and treatment of cellulose fibers, experiment with natural dyeing techniques, and discover how different processes influence the colors we create. Through hands-on learning and observation, we'll deepen our understanding of the relationship between fiber, mordant, tannin, and botanical dye.

This class is designed for students who have taken an introductory botanical dyeing class or have some experience working with natural dyes. You'll leave with practical experience, samples to reference, and a deeper understanding of the processes behind botanical color.
