Join us at Handcraft Revival on the longest night of the year for a beautiful Waldorf-inspired tradition celebrating light, warmth, and the quiet beauty of the winter season.
The Winter Spiral Walk is a gentle, reflective experience traditionally held during Advent or around the winter solstice. A spiral of evergreen branches is laid upon the ground, with a glowing lantern at its center. Each person walks slowly into the spiral, carrying a candle, and pauses at the center to receive its light. As they walk outward, they place their candle among the evergreens, gradually filling the spiral with warmth and light.
It is a simple but meaningful reminder that even during the darkest days of winter, we each carry a little light to share.
What to Expect
Walk the Winter Spiral | Free
Our outdoor evergreen spiral will be set up in the parking lot behind Handcraft Revival. Guests are welcome to walk the spiral anytime between 5:30 and 7:30pm.
You are welcome to bring your own candle or traditional apple candle to carry through the spiral. There is no cost to participate in the walk, and no purchase is necessary.
Make an Apple Candle | $10 Adults, $5 Children (supplies limited)
Inside the shop, we'll have supplies available to create a traditional Waldorf apple candle. Using a fresh apple as the base, you'll assemble your own candle to carry into the spiral.
This simple seasonal craft is a lovely way for children and adults alike to prepare for the experience.
Pour Your Own Tealight Candle
Guests participating in candle-making will also have the opportunity to pour their own tealight candle.
Freshly poured candles need approximately 24 hours to cure before they can be burned, so we'll have ready-to-use candles available for the spiral walk. Your hand-poured candle can be taken home to enjoy after it has cured.
A Tradition of Light
In Waldorf education, the spiral walk is a cherished seasonal tradition that invites us to slow down and reflect.
The inward journey represents a moment of stillness and quiet reflection, while the outward journey symbolizes carrying our own light back into the world.
Held on the winter solstice, when the night is longest and the days begin their gradual return toward the light, this tradition feels especially meaningful.
Whether this is your first spiral walk or a familiar family tradition, we invite you to share in this peaceful celebration of the season.
A Quiet and Reflective Experience
The Winter Spiral Walk is intended to be a peaceful, contemplative experience. We ask all guests to help us preserve a quiet and reverent atmosphere throughout the evening.
Children are warmly welcomed, and we encourage parents to prepare them beforehand for the quiet nature of the walk. Invite them to move slowly, speak softly, and take a moment to reflect on the light they carry and the light they share with others.
This is not a race or an activity to rush through, but an opportunity to slow down, be present, and experience a little stillness together during the busy holiday season.
Thank you for helping us create a meaningful experience for everyone who visits the spiral.

CLASS FAQs
Do I need prior experience?
Most classes are beginner-friendly unless the listing says otherwise. Each class page includes information about the intended skill level and any experience you’ll need.
What is included with registration?
Each listing explains which materials and tools are included. If you need to bring anything or purchase additional supplies, that information will be clearly noted.
What ages can attend?
Age guidelines vary by class and are listed in the class details. Some adult classes welcome younger participants when accompanied by a registered adult. Please contact us before registering if you’re unsure whether a class is a good fit.
How do I register?
Advance registration is required unless the event is specifically described as a drop-in gathering. Your seat is reserved once checkout is complete and you receive a confirmation email.
Can I register more than one person?
Yes. Please purchase one seat for each participant unless the listing states otherwise. When possible, include each participant’s name during booking.
What happens if Handcraft Revival cancels a class?
If we need to cancel a class, all registered participants will be contacted directly and offered a refund or store credit.
What if a class does not meet minimum enrollment?
Handcraft Revival and the instructor will decide together whether to proceed. If the class is canceled, registered participants will be contacted directly.
Where should I park?
Street parking is available around the shop. Please allow a few extra minutes to find parking and arrive before class begins.
What if I arrive late?
Please arrive a few minutes early so class can begin on time. If you’re running late, contact the shop when possible. Because many classes begin with important demonstrations or safety information, we may not always be able to restart missed instruction.
Are classes accessible?
Yes. We want our classes to be as welcoming and accessible as possible. Handcraft Revival has a ramp at the entrance and an accessible restroom. If you have any other mobility, sensory, learning, or accommodation needs, please contact us before class so we can discuss how best to support your participation.
Can I bring food or drinks?
Covered drinks are welcome unless a class listing says otherwise. For longer classes, the listing will let you know whether to bring a snack or meal.
Photos and short video clips may be taken during class for Handcraft Revival’s social media and marketing. If you or your child prefer not to be photographed, please let us know at arrival. We are happy to accommodate your preference.
