Ages 8-11 | July 13-17 | 1–4pm
Taught by Virginia Whiting

This week-long Sewing 1 camp is an introduction to machine sewing for children who are ready to learn foundational skills in a supportive, small-group setting.

The week begins with a gentle assessment so the instructor can meet students where they are. From there, students will learn how sewing machines work, how to use them safely and confidently, and how to care for their tools. Students will complete a practical sewing kit pouch and leave with essential sewing supplies to continue practicing at home.

Because the class builds skills across the week, drop-in registrations will not be available for this camp

What We’ll Cover

  • Sewing machine basics and safety
  • Getting to know your machine: parts, setup, and troubleshooting
  • Measuring, cutting, and pinning fabric
  • Sewing straight seams and basic construction
  • Completing a handmade sewing kit pouch

About Sewing Machines

Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine so they can learn on the machine they’ll use at home. If your child does not have a machine, we have machines available for use during camp.

If you’re considering purchasing a sewing machine, we’re happy to offer suggestions before camp begins.
