{7/27-29} Sew & Dye: Tote Bag — Part 1
Couldn't load pickup availability
Ages 11+ | July 27–29 (Monday–Wednesday) | 1–4pm
Taught by Virginia Whiting
This camp is Part 1 of a two-part Sew & Dye experience. Students will sew a simple tote bag that can then be dyed using traditional shibori techniques later in the week.
In this first section, students will build on basic machine sewing skills while constructing a sturdy, functional tote bag. The focus is on accuracy, good habits, and confidence with tools.
Students may register for this camp on its own, but it is designed to be paired with Part 2: Shibori Dyeing to complete the full project.
Sewing Experience Needed
This camp is best suited for students who already have some experience using a sewing machine.
Students who are new to machine sewing are welcome to prepare by taking our Beginning Machine Sewing course or scheduling a short private lesson before camp. We’re happy to help you decide if this camp is the right fit.
What We’ll Cover
- Review of sewing machine basics and safety
- Measuring, cutting, and pinning fabric
- Sewing straight seams and basic construction
- Assembling and finishing a tote bag
Project
Each student will complete a handmade tote bag, ready to dye during Part 2 of the camp or to use as-is.
About Sewing Machines
Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine so they can learn on the machine they use at home. If a student does not have a machine, we have machines available for use during camp.
